How to use the SOS alarm

Last Updated: Sep 30, 2011 03:00PM CEST
The BipperKids app includes a free Safety Alarm for your child to use in case of emergency. We recommend you review and test the alarm with your child after installing the app on the phone.

Here's how the SOS icon and Safety Alarm work:
  • When installing the app, you as a parent must log in to the app and create a Guardian list for the safety alarm.
    • The Guardian list is the list of contacts who will receive an SMS with a link to your child's mobile phone position if the alarm is triggered. One Guardian will also be called up.
    • The list can be revised at any time by opening the app and clicking on 'Guardians'. Only you as an administrator can open and edit this list as it is password-protected.
  • After installation, the SOS icon is available on the main page of the app.
  • If the alarm is set off, there is a 5-second cancel window before SMSes are sent and the call is made to the primary Guardian.
    • The SMS includes a link to a map of where the mobile phone is. This is a GPS location.
    • When the child turns off the alarm another SMS is sent to the Guardians informing them that the danger is over.

Here's what your child should know:
  • How the SOS icon and safety alarm work
  • Who is on the Guardian list

Here's what the Guardians should know:
  • When first added to the Guardian list, Guardians are notified that they are added to your child's Safety Alarm list. Each Guardian receives an SMS with the following text:

I have BipperKids on my phone to make me safer. With BipperKids my parents can monitor and control how I use my phone, and I get my own safety alarm. You have been chosen as my Guardian. If I activate the alarm, you will be notified by SMS with info on my GPS locaion. Read about BipperKids here: http://beta.bipper.com
